Business & Vision
Are You Building the Real Estate Business You Actually Want?
You're closing deals. Answering calls. Working weekends. Showing up for your clients. Doing everything you're supposed to do to build a successful real estate business.
But let me ask you something.
Is the business you're building actually giving you the life you want?
We talk a lot about production in real estate. How many homes did you sell? What's your GCI? How many listings do you have? How big is your team?
Those are all numbers we can measure.
But there's a question I don't think we ask nearly enough.
What do you want?
Success Doesn't Look the Same for Everyone
Not every agent wants to sell 50 homes a year.
Not everyone wants to build a massive organization.
Some agents want to earn more money. Others want financial freedom, more time with their families, the ability to travel, or a business that doesn't require them to be available every minute of the day.
And some want to build something bigger than themselves.
None of those answers is wrong.
The problem starts when we spend years chasing someone else's definition of success without stopping to ask whether it's what we actually want.
Are You Making Progress or Just Staying Busy?
Real estate has a way of keeping us busy.
There's always another call to return, another showing to schedule, another opportunity to pursue.
And when you're busy, it's easy to feel productive.
But being busy and moving forward aren't necessarily the same thing.
You can close more transactions, make more money, and grow your business while moving further away from the life you wanted to create.
Think about that.
What if you doubled your income next year, but also doubled the hours you worked? Would you consider that success?
For some agents, the answer might be yes.
For others, absolutely not.
That's why knowing what you want matters.
Your Vision Should Guide Your Decisions
One of the biggest lessons I've learned is that not every good opportunity is the right opportunity.
As business owners, we're constantly asking ourselves, "Can I make this work?"
But there's another question worth asking.
"If this works, does it get me closer to what I want?"
That changes the way you look at opportunities.
A new lead source, another business venture, an additional responsibility, or a chance to grow your team might all sound exciting.
But if they take your time, energy, and attention away from what matters most, are they really moving you forward?
A clear vision gives you something to measure your decisions against.
And those decisions, made consistently over time, can change the direction of your business and your life.
Your Business Is Part of Your Life. Not Your Entire Life.
I believe a well-rounded vision matters.
You can build an incredibly successful business and still struggle in your relationships, neglect your health, or have very little time to enjoy what you've created.
That's why I believe it's important to look beyond business goals.
Think about your personal life, your family, your finances, your spiritual life, and your business.
What do you want each of those areas to look like five years from now?
Because success in one area doesn't automatically create fulfillment in the others.
And the goal isn't simply to build a bigger business.
It's to build a business that supports the life you want.
You Don't Have to Figure It All Out Alone
One of the things I love about real estate is the opportunity to learn from other people.
The right conversation can change how you see a problem.
The right training can introduce you to a system you didn't know existed.
And the right relationships can help you see possibilities you hadn't considered.
That's part of why Better Together matters to me.
It's about bringing agents together to share ideas, learn, collaborate, and support one another's growth.
Not because everyone wants the same thing.
But because we can help one another move toward what matters most to each of us.
So Let Me Ask You Again.
What do you want?
Not what your brokerage wants.
Not what the most successful agent in your office is doing.
Not what everyone else thinks you should be building.
What do you want your business and your life to look like?
Maybe it's time to start there.
